Margao: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state convener Elvis Gomes on Monday said the state government had failed on all fronts, prompting people to look at AAP with great hopes and expectations. He accused the government of compromising on various major issues concerning the state.
Gomes, who released AAP’s first list of candidates for the forthcoming zilla panchayat elections on Monday, told reporters that the party had tried its best to give greater representation to women and had brought new faces into the political system.
Atishi, the newly-elected MLA in the Delhi assembly and Goa desk in-charge, was also present. She explained how service delivery for various sectors needed to be provided at the level of panchayats and zilla panchayats, and made a case for devolution of more powers to the self-governing bodies.
“Solutions lie in the people’s hands. Gram sabhas need to be strengthened. Through zilla panchayats, AAP will ensure that panchayats extend help to fishermen, farmers, small businessmen, students and women entrepreneurs to generate an economy around the village,” she said.
Atishi also said that Goa’s garbage issue could be tackled through low-cost solutions. “AAP will help solve the garbage problem. You will notice the difference soon if our candidates are elected,” she said. The party candidate list on Monday featured Marcelina Colaco (Nuvem), Lia Gomes (Raia), Brinda Dsilva (Curtorim) , Matilda Dsilva (Navelim), Rodolfina Vaz (Guirdolim), Sidharth Patil (Sanvordem), Sandeep Naik (Rivona) and Pobres Vaz ( Cortalim).
