Standard of govt schools improving: CM

Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that there are 78 govt high schools in the state, of which 41 achieved 100% results.

Over 52% of govt high schools secured 100% results and the remaining schools, between 70% and 80%.

Sawant said that state govt has upgraded the standard of govt schools in a substantial manner and urged parents to enrol their children. “Parents should not neglect govt high schools and higher secondary schools,” Sawant said.

More than 1,500 students appeared for the SSC exam from govt high schools, of which 1,437 have passed.

Although 41 schools secured cent per cent results, another 13 schools could have shared the same feat but could not as one student from each school did not clear the exams.

“I feel proud being the education minister. Some students in the 13 schools may get ‘allowed to keep terms’ (ATKT) and after evaluation, all of them may secure 100% results,” Sawant said.

He also said that most govt-aided schools have a habit of detaining students in Class IX to secure 100% pass in the SSC exam.

Sawant said that govt high schools are mostly in rural areas and all are average students who never attend any additional classes.

“Those students who dropped out from aided schools enrol in govt high schools and even then govt high schools secure 100% results,” the chief minister added.

Sawant said that there have been instances wherein govt-aided schools charge students fees and govt will take stern action against such schools. “Govt-aided schools should stop charging fees as govt provides free education from Class I to X,” the chief minister said.

Govt is considering changing the recruitment rules (RR) to recruit employees in govt and private schools and higher education, said the chief minister.

He added that from the current academic year, the state is planning to introduce the New Education Policy (NEP) for Class IX. A meeting in this regard will be conducted on Friday.

Sawant said that govt has made provision for students who have passed SSC exams to get admission in higher secondary schools.

Books will be the same for Class VI for the academic year and for Class III, three books have undergone changes in it which will be introduced this year.
