South Goa admin prepares for Shigmo and Carnival celebrations

Margao: The collectors and district magistrates of North Goa and South Goa have issued directives to deputy collectors and sub-divisional magistrates across the state's three districts to ensure the smooth conduct of upcoming public celebrations in Feb and March.

The order comes ahead of major festivals, including Shigmo, Carnival, and Shivaji Jayanti, which are expected to draw large crowds across both districts. The district administration emphasised comprehensive planning, supervision, and monitoring of all arrangements to maintain law and order, public safety, and effective crowd management.


According to the directives, the arrangements will be implemented in close coordination with various departments, including the police department, municipal bodies, health services, fire and emergency Services, transport department, and other relevant line departments.

Key measures announced include adequate deployment of executive magistrates and police personnel at major venues. Traffic diversion plans and parking arrangements are being finalised in consultation with the traffic police, with public advisories to be issued in advance.

Event organisers and stakeholders have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with applicable noise regulations, safety norms, and structural guidelines for sound systems, DJs, floats, and stages used during the festivities.

The collectors has also mandated the positioning of medical support facilities, ambulances, fire tenders, and emergency response teams at major event locations to handle any contingencies.
