Six films selected for Film Bazaar’s work-in-progress lab
Panaji: The 18th edition of the National Film Development Corporation’s (NFDC) Film Bazaar, held alongside the International Film Festival of India (Iffi) in Goa, has unveiled the official selection for its work-in-progress (WIP) lab. This year, six promising fiction films were chosen to participate in the WIP lab, which offers post-production support and mentorship to emerging filmmakers.
The selected films are ‘Shape of Momos’, a Nepali film directed by Tribeny Rai, which explores familial bonds and cultural identity against the backdrop of the momo-making tradition in Nepal; ‘Gaangshalik’ (river bird), a Bengali film directed by Shakteedhar Bir, delves into the complexities of rural Bengal, blending folklore with contemporary struggles; ‘Yerra Mandaram’ (The red hibiscus), a Telugu film directed by Mohan Kumar Valasala, paints a vivid picture of social tension and human resilience; ‘Kaatti Ri Raatti’ (hunter’s moon), a Nepali Gaddi film directed by Ridham Janve, is a story where themes of survival, tradition, and the modern world collide; ‘Umal’, a Marathi film directed by Siddharth Badi, is a tender coming-of-age story about self-discovery in rural Maharashtra and ‘The Good, The Bad, The Hungry’, a Hindi film directed by Vivek Kumar, is a darkly comic social drama that takes a satirical look at the complexities of human nature and morality in contemporary urban India.
The WIP lab provides filmmakers with the necessary support to complete their projects and prepare them for international release. The lab will offer both online and offline sessions, allowing selected filmmakers to engage with experienced mentors, industry experts, and potential collaborators.
