Ponda:“Through Shigmo festivities, we aim to promote cultural tourism in the state,” the CM said.
‘Antruj Mahal’, as Ponda was called in ancient times, is known for its Shigmo and folk-art festivals.
This year’s edition drew massive throngs of people. The crowd started gathering along Ponda streets from the afternoon for the evening parade.
An artiste from Vasco who portrayed ‘Mahakaal’ stole the show. A spectacular display of Hindu mythology and history on the floats elicited admiration from the crowd.
The local MLA and president of Ponda Shigmotsav committee, Ravi Naik, tourism minister Rohan Khaunte, BJP state president Damu Naik, former BJP state president and member of Rajya Sabha Sadanand Tanavade, and Ponda municipal council chairperson Anand Naik were present for the celebration.
