Sawant invites scientists to explore temple tourism
Panaji: Speaking at the OSICON-25, hosted by the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa, chief minister, Pramod Sawant promoted temple tourism to scientists attending the event from a total of 88 prestigious institutions.
“You will be in Goa for three days for this conference. As a chief minister, it is my duty to welcome you. Goa is always known for sun, sand and sea and you people are also more interested in sun, sand and sea. I will add one more ‘s’ which is the spirituality in the state of Goa. So, enjoy the spirituality and enjoy the temple tourism in Goa,” he said.
The conference is being held in Goa from Feb 5-7 at NIO, Dona Paula.
“With over 600 delegates from over 80 institutions, this is the largest gathering of ocean researchers in India. The discussions at this conference scan all the dimensions of oceanography, ocean spheres, interactions, climate change, ocean governance, explorations, engineering and technology,” Sawant said.
The focal theme of OSICON-25 is ‘Sustainability of Oceans and Climate Change’ which will highlight the critical interplay between ocean health and climate stability.
“The theme is of immense importance. Oceans, covering over 70% of the Earth’s surface, are pivotal in regulating global climate by absorbing carbon dioxide and heat. However, climate change is severely impacting this delicate balance, leading to ocean acidification and loss of biodiversity,” Sawant said.
“We look forward to working with the national agencies to implement the coastal and marine conservation projects that align with India’s ambitious deep oceans mission and Samudrayan – country’s deep sea exploration initiative for which Rs 600 crore have been allocated in the Union Budget 2025,” he added.
