Santa Cruz sarpanch to face no-trust motion

Panaji: Of the 11 members of the Santa Cruz panchayat, six have moved a no-confidence motion against sarpanch Jenifer De Oliveira and deputy sarpanch Elson Braganca. Independent panch Inacio Pereira has withdrawn support from the Congress-backed panel.

The notice, signed by Pereira, Rosy Fernandes, Peter de Araujo, Sandeep Sawant, Luisa Fernandes, and Lafira de Oliveira, has been submitted to the Tiswadi block division officer.

The charges levelled against the sarpanch include taking decisions without taking other panch members into confidence, and lack of progress made by the panchayat body to construct a panchayat ghar and community hall.

Pereira, who was earlier part of de Oliveira’s camp, had stepped down as deputy sarpanch in Aug.
