PANAJI: With the intention of strengthening the coastal security of the state, the government has decided to hold a two-day comprehensive Sagar Kavach exercise on December 10 and 11.
The comprehensive coastal security exercise involving all concerned agencies is being conducted under the aegis of government of Goa since 2009. The coastal security exercise “Sagar Kavach Goa” was conducted last in May 2014.

The objective of this exercise is to provide seamless seaward cover along the Goa coast jointly by all security agencies from coastal belt area line to the limit of territorial waters, that is 12 nautical miles. The exercise will also assess the effectiveness of coastal fishing community in serving as “eyes and ears” for early warning of seaward threat. This time the services of Dristi life guards, present on the beaches of Goa, will also be utilized for same purpose.
The coastal security exercise is being supervised by the chief secretary, government of Goa, and is conducted and coordinated by Indian Coast Guard district headquarters Goa. Various agencies like Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Goa Police, Goa Coastal Security Intelligence agencies, MPT, Captain of Ports department, CISF and Customs etc. will be taking part.
