Roads messed up, act against PWD engineers: Carlos
Panaji: Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira on Wednesday demanded govt take action against the PWD engineers responsible for the poor state of the roads across the state. Ferreira also demanded that govt relieve “non-performing” principal chief engineer Uttam Parsekar from his duties. The MLA emphasised that the poor condition of roads across Goa has persisted for several years, and it is time for govt to hold the engineers accountable and take necessary measures to address the problem.
“If the work needs to be done immediately, I must say one thing: inefficient engineers must go home. They are just sitting and collecting salary at the end of the month. The first person whose head should roll is the principal chief engineer, Parsekar, who is on extension. Why should he be there in the chair if he cannot perform? If you roll the head of PCE, then everybody will fall in line,” Ferreira said.
Ferreira also questions govt’s claim that extending the principal chief engineer’s tenure is in the public interest, hinting at the possibility of “ulterior” motives.
He urged the chief minister to take swift action by relieving the principal chief engineer of his duties and ensuring that deserving individuals receive timely promotions. He believes such measures will foster a happier and more efficient department while curbing the corruption that persists at the top levels.
Reacting to the chief minister’s statement that govt will engage experts to evaluate the condition of the roads throughout the state, Ferreira said, “Appointing an external agency to review the situation will necessitate correspondence, examination, and a significant amount of time.”
