Road from Saligao to Pilerne estate closed

Calangute: The busy road connecting Saligao circle and Pilerne industrial estate has been closed for traffic after it was washed out in the pre-monsoon rainfall.
As the road is being used by thousands of commuters everyday, the traffic has been diverted via Candolim and Sangolda. Buses on Betim-Mapusa route via Pilerne industrial estate have been diverted via the interior road to the Chogm road in Sangolda.
The road was recently dug up to lay electricity cables to connect the under construction Saligao sub-station to the coastal electricity network. Earlier, it had been dug up for laying of a water pipeline to the new Pilerne water treatment plant from the upcoming pumping station in Calangute. However, the road was still to be repaired when the pre-monsoon rains struck.
Saligao MLA Kedar Naik said, “All these works were unavoidable. We have restored most of the other roads in Saligao. Only the 1.5km stretch from Saligao circle to the Pilerne industrial estate is remaining. It was held up because of the unexpected pre-monsoon rain. We are waiting for a dry spell and we will restore the road as soon as possible.”
