has been riddled with many issues ever since it was thrown open for vehicular traffic in November 2019.

The four-lane road includes the bridges over Galgibaga, Mashem creek and Talpona river, as well as three vehicular underpasses, 17 piped culverts and four box culverts.

, in particular, has witnessed several problems such as cattle being run over by speeding vehicles, corrosion along the railings of the bridge, and the latest being iron spikes that have been exposed after the road surface above the fourth pier from the Mashem side opened up.

Citizens have pointed out that this poses a risk to motorists, particularly two-wheelers users.

When contacted, the assistant engineer concerned said that he will follow up the matter with department that is responsible for maintenance, and undertake rectification done at the earliest.

Part of the ongoing highway expansion project, the Canacona bypass has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 2.97 billion.
