Ribandar jetty & municipal market near completion
Panaji: The fishing jetty and the mini municipal market at Ribandar are nearing completion. While the fishing jetty will be ready by the end of March, the work on the municipal market and community hall will continue until May.
Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) managing director and chief executive officer Sanjit Rodrigues said that the Corporation of the City of Panaji has yet to decide on what to do with the building that is coming up at Ribandar.
“As far as the fisherfolk’s wharf is concerned, the last concreting is going on, and by March 31, we will be ready with that,” Rodrigues said. “Finishing touches and electrical work are pending.”
The Ribandar jetty is a project for local fisherfolk to dock about 12 fishing canoes. The project involves redeveloping an old wooden jetty into a concrete jetty with Rs 2.1 crore budgeted for the works. The length of the jetty was reduced from 50m to 35m.
“As far as the building is concerned, we will require a bit more time. There were some issues with changing the existing electrical substation and a lot of other equipment,” Rodrigues said. “So, it will take some time. It may go up to May, but the structure of the building will be completed by March 31.”
He added, “We will also take views from the municipal corporation and see how it intends to put the building to use. Accordingly, we will furnish and complete the building.” Rodrigues further said, “We will get the building ready, but the interiors will be done as the corporation wants us to do. It will then be handed over to the CCP.” IPSCDL’s initial plan envisioned a mini municipal market along with a community hall and a satellite office of the CCP.
