Retelling the Ramayana through dance

: The Indian epic, Ramayana, has several interpretations. Adding to these is ‘Rahasya—Mysterious circle of life’, a unique triptych of Indian classical dances, to be presented at Kala Academy at 6.30pm on Saturday.

The creative endeavour will see ‘RA’, for Rama, portrayed in bharatanatyam by Paris Laxmi, ‘HA’, for Hanuman, portrayed in kathakali by Pallippuram Sunil, and ‘SYA’, for Sita, portrayed in odissi by Abhayalakshmi.

It tells the love story of Rama and Sita through the eyes of Hanuman, who discovers the secret of the universal truth. The performance will attempt to reveal secrets of each character and try to understand them beyond the tales.

While Paris Laxmi — born in

France

— is trained in bharatanatyam and various European dance forms, her husband Pallippuram Sunil, is a kathakali exponent The couple formed a duet that has performed across the globe. They run the Kalashakti School of Arts at

Vaikom

in Kerala.

Abhayalakshmi, on the other hand, is a reputed odissi dancer empanelled under ICCR and a Doordarshan graded artiste who has performed in India and abroad.

Renowned actor and screenwriter Murali Gopy will be the narrator and Praveen D Rao the music composer. Arjun Bharadwaj is the Sanskrit lyricist. A team of 10 musicians have worked on the background score of this eclectic dance trio.
