Remove flyover up-ramp and gates, Baina locals tell MPA
Vasco: Agitated Baina locals have demanded that Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) dismantle the gates and walls erected at the up-ramp of the flyover towards their area.
The locals’ expressed concern spurred an inspection of the site. On Wednesday morning, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar carried out the site inspection of the gates and walls constructed by MPA at the up-ramp.
“MPA should fulfil the demands of the people. It should deploy additional security, if required, at the entrance of the up-ramp,” Salkar said. “I am hopeful that MPA will remove all barricades, as chief minister Pramod Sawant has already directed MPA to remove the gates and walls.”
The inspecting team included area councillor and vice-chairman of Goa Human Resource Development Corporation Deepak Naik; Ravindra Bhavan, Vasco, chairman Jayant Jadhav; and industrialist Babu Kamat.
“Although the MPA has decided to open the access to the flyover through the up-ramp, the MPA should dismantle the gates and the walls that endanger commuters,” Naik said. “We strongly believe that the gates and walls should be removed immediately.”
Why does the need for CCTV cameras arise when the people of Baina are in favour of MPA projects, Jadhav asked. “There is no need for CCTV cameras, nor for the gates and walls.”
The other members of the inspection team included the deputy collector and subdivisional magistrate, Mormugao, Bhagwant Karmali; Mormugao mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit; and Vasco police officers.
