PANAJI: The Panaji police will conduct an identification parade of 26-year-old Lawrence Dias from Merces who had allegedly raped a 32-year-old British woman on January 11, 2008.
The police have moved an application before the chief judicial magistrate to conduct the identification parade. The cops have contacted the victim who has agreed to be present for the parade.
Dias, a daily wage worker of the forest department, was arrested recently by the Panaji police. On Tuesday, he was remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
It may be recalled that the victim in her complaint to the police had alleged that after attending a cultural programme in Panaji she was waiting for a taxi to travel to the KTC bus stop when she hiked a lift from an unidentified motorcyclist. The victim further said that the accused instead of taking her to the bus stand, took her to Merces spring, assaulted her and then raped her.
