Panaji: Deputy chief minister Francis D'Souza on Wednesday took a dig at the public works department (PWD) for delaying the completion of projects taken up by them. He also faulted the PWD for the incomplete construction of the Mapusa police station.
"The construction of the Mapusa police station should have been completed by December 2015 but I don't see it getting ready by December this year either," he said.

He said that had the construction of the police station been given to the Goa state infrastructure development corporation (GSIDC) then it would have been completed by now.
D'souza said that the PWD gives civil work, plumbing work, electrical work, landscaping, and roofing work to different contractors which takes time to complete. "For a single project, the PWD issues five different tenders," he said, adding that the Goa state infrastructure development corporation (GSIDC) does it in one tender. "One project should not have to be tendered at five different occasions," he said.
He pointed out that the GSIDC has taken on a lot of projects due to which some are running slow, but, most of the time, it has met targets and done time-bound work. "People's expectations are high. They want everything quickly," he added.
D'Souza, who is also town and country planning (TCP) minister, on Wednesday, inaugurated the TCP branch office at Patto, Panaji.
