Several clubs against which noise pollution complaints were received told police that they could not share CCTV footage from Dec 2024 as it had been overwritten.

Last month, the HC directed Anjuna police to obtain the CCTV footage from clubs from Dec 2024 to check whether they were playing music beyond 10pm as alleged by villagers.

Anjuna police submitted to the court that although they wrote to 21 establishments asking for CCTV footage, they were unable to obtain footage from Dec as they were informed by the clubs that the footage got overwritten due to space shortage in the recorders.

“We have verified the DVRs (digital video recorders) of the said establishments; however, CCTV footage of Dec 2024 was found overwritten,” Anjuna PI Suraj Gawas submitted to the HC last week.

During the hearing on Tuesday, the advocate general suggested that the clubs be made to upload CCTV footage every month on cloud storage for the Goa State Pollution Control Board.

The petitioner, Desmond Alvares, told the HC that he could not locate the sound monitoring systems installed at a few clubs, following which the court asked the board and police to ascertain the locations of the systems.

Gawas submitted to the court last week that the Anjuna police station received 96 calls regarding the violation of noise rules and added that every call was attended to.
