Power dept snaps cables from poles off 18th June Road, says will act on plaints
Panaji: The electricity department on Friday cut cables hanging on seven of its poles off 18th June Road. Executive engineer Kashinath Shetye said the cables were cut and cleared following a complaint by a Panaji resident seeking urgent action to remove illegal cables tied to electricity poles in front of her house.
She complained to the department recently about a corroded pole outside her house, which the department removed along with the cables. However, the very next day, she found that cables were being illegally strung on a new pole of the department, and her bougainvillea tree became shaky after three cables were pulled through it. She also complained to the police and requested that an FIR be registered.
Shetye told reporters that those stringing the cables were found to have no valid permission to do so and added that the department will continue cutting cables if it receives more complaints.
“The Internet Service Providers Association withdrew their petition in the high court of Bombay at Goa. No stay has been granted. They have not paid a single rupee to govt. Either they obtain a stay, or we will restart clearing all the cables,” he said.
“They must pay us. How much time should we give them?” Shetye asked.
