VALPOI: A Portuguese era footbridge over the Valvanti at Ghoteli 2-Keri in Sattari taluka collapsed on Sunday. Fortunately, no one was on the bridge at the time of the incident.

According to villagers, the bridge was used by Ghoteli villagers to reach the main Keri village.

Devendra Gawas, a villager from Keri, said that there is another bridge adjacent to this footbridge. “People have the option of using this bridge, which is also used by vehicular traffic”, he said.

Villagers also said that instead of reconstructing the collapsed footbridge, the existing adjacent bridge should be repaired and strengthened. “This bridge should be repaired and renovated with provision for a footpath,” they said.
