Ponda town gets 22 CCTV cameras
Ponda: With the 22 CCTV cameras installed at 16 locations across town, the sophisticated surveillance system will monitor activities including traffic discipline, crimes etc in Ponda.
The system has been procured through member of Parliament local area development (MPLAD) scheme by South Goa member of Parliament Narendra Sawaikar.
A formal commissioning of the system was held at Ponda municipal council (PMC) hall late on Thursday.

Sawaikar commissioned the system in the presence of Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar and Goa information technology corporation chairman Nilesh Cabral, PMC acting chairperson Shantaram Kolvenkar and councillors, South Goa collector Sachin Shinde, PMC chief officer Johnson Fernandes and Ponda deputy superintendent of police Sunita Sawant.
Nupur Electronics, a Panaji-based company, has installed the surveillance cameras across the town.In early 2014, the PMC had planned to install 66 CCTV cameras at 28 points across the town and suburban areas to check the rising number of thefts and to avert any unforeseen situation. Cameras are installed at key places including Dada Vaidya Circle, Ponda Budhwarpeth market junction, municipal vegetable market, Sadar junction, near Hotel Menino, Yes Bank junction, market junction, Canara Bank junction, Tisk-Ponda and government offices’ complex building at Tiska-Ponda, etc. tnn
