Ponda police suspect son killed dad, then self at Usgao
Ponda: Two members of the Chandagadkar family—Baliram, 70 and Pramod, 40—were found dead on Wednesday afternoon in their house in Avanti Nagar-Usgao. Ponda police suspect that Pramod murdered his father before killing himself.
The incident came to light when Pramod’s sister, Parvati Shankar Desai, came to maternal house to celebrate Tulsi Vivah on Wednesday afternoon. The door of the house was pulled closed but not latched from inside. Parvati pushed the door and entered to find Baliram lying on a bed with several wounds on his body and Pramod hanging from a wooden rafter.
Finding them dead, Parvati rushed to the neighbours for help. The neighbours reported the incident to the Usgao-Ganjem sarpanch, Ramnath Dangui, who in turn called the Ponda police.
The police were joined by the forensic sciences team at 7pm and investigations began at the site.
Dangui told TOI that Baliram was a labourer and had stopped working around a decade ago. Pramod used to work as a mason. The father-son duo had a good relationship and the villagers were surprised to know that both were dead.
The sarpanch said that there was a sickle near the bed. Dangui also said that since their meal plates were inside the room, they must have died in the night.
The investigation was being carried out until late Wednesday night. The postmortem examination of the two bodies will be done on Thursday.
