Piligao villagers oppose night-time ore transport

Bicholim: Upset villagers of Piligao on Friday made it clear that they will not allow transportation of ore through their village at night.

The emergency meeting was called by deputy collector Rohan Kaskar after the people of Piligao on Thursday night blocked ore transportation, stating they were being disturbed due to the continuous movement of vehicles.

At the meeting on Friday, while angry villagers were in no mood to concede, representatives of the Vedanta Company made it clear that transportation was being done after they received permission from the directorate of mines and geology.

President of Truck Owners Association Satish Gaonkar suggested that day trips for transportation of ore should be increased if locals are against the transportation at night.
