Monika Ghurde

are shocked by her tragic demise, but, even so, many of those who knew her sought to remain silent given the circumstances surrounding her death and said they would refrain from reacting openly till the police was able to give some conclusive answers about the case.

had a similar reaction. “It is shocking that this could happen to such a wonderful soul like hers. I’ve known her for the past 15 years.”

While many were stunned, many others raised concerns regarding the implication this incident would have on the state’s image.

“It is sad that Monika met with such a tragic end. I met her just two days ago and she was the every-smiling, bubbly person that she always was,” businessman and friend,

Nandan Kudchadkar

, told TOI while maintaining that such incidents are not not typical to just Goa and the state should not earn a bad name for the crime.

Fashion designer Wendell Rodricks, also a friend, expressing his shock said that the incident again highlighted the dangers single women face.
