Pay electricity bills online week before due date for rebate: Goa electricity department

The electricity department has appealed to consumers to make their bill payments early to avail of rebates offered by the department. Domestic consumers can avail of 1.25% rebate if they pay bills online and seven days prior to the due date. “People were not aware about the rebate so we’re trying to spread the word through social media and other platforms to take advantage of this,” said executive engineer Bicholim Vallabh Samant.

If people pay their bills on time, this not only benefits them but the department receives its revenue in time, he said.
“If the bill remains unpaid, consumers are burdened with a 2% Delayed Payment Charge (DPC). Instead paying the bill seven days before the due date helps them save something,” he added.
The department offers 0.25% discount for bill payments made seven days in advance of the due date and an additional 1% rebate on electronic payments made seven days prior to the due date, which is available only to low tension domestic, low income group and agriculture (pump set and irrigation) consumers.
The Bicholim division has been educating consumers about these benefits. It has gone a step further and has circulated contacts of department staff for any billing related queries. “The idea is to resolve issues as soon as possible without the need of the consumers visiting the office. We want to assure quality service to the public,” Samant said.
