Panaji resident told to raze structure built on Atmaram Borkar Road
Panaji: The North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) has directed a Panaji resident to demolish his illegally-built structure along the Atmaram Borkar Road within one-month, failing which, the NGPDA will demolish the structure.
The person had demolished his old home and rebuilt a structure which was “totally in violation and deviating the plan approved” by planning authorities.
“You are hereby directed to remove the illegal construction within a period of one month from the issuance of this order, failing which, this authority shall demolish the said illegal structure and recover the cost of the demolition from you,” said NGPDA member secretary Vertika Dagur.
The High Court of Bombay at Goa had directed NGPDA to initiate action against the construction after carrying out a joint site inspection. The high court had observed that major deviations, including the encroachment of a public road, cannot be condoned by the NGPDA.
A joint inspection by the Corporation of the City of Panaji and the town and country planning department had found that while undertaking construction, the owner had not maintained the required setback from the centre of the main road, from where the minimum distance required to be maintained is 13.5 metre.
After construction, the home owner had submitted a revised plan and sought relaxation of the norms, which the NGPDA rejected.
The owner had demolished the old structure and built a new RCC structure by erecting columns, casting beams and slabs, as against the repair plan originally submitted to the NGPDA.
