Voting for the Panaji bypolls

concluded at 6pm with the Election Commission of India (ECI) stating that 75.28% of the 22482 voters turned out to cast their vote on Sunday. The polling process has been completely peaceful with an incident of violence being reported.

The polling percentage stood at 71.50 per cent at 5pm, an election official said.

Traditional rivals BJP and Congress are locked in a keen electoral battle for control of the state capital and quite likely the state government.

After witnessing queues in the morning, the voting pace slowed down in the afternoon. It is expected to pick up in the evening again.

In the February Assembly polls, Panaji constituency recorded a 78.85% turnout..
