COLVA: A huge quantity of
garbage
packed in plastic bags is lying outside the
Colva panchayat
office for some days now and the local body has not bothered to clear it.
Students, teachers and the general public has to go through this mess to get to the school, village library and the panchayat itself.
The government middle school also shares the same gate where the garbage is accumulated with the panchayat office and a bank is right opposite it.
Sarpanch Anthony Fernandes said the garbage would be cleared by Wednesday.
A panchayat member on condition of anonymity said that the panchayat, though generates a huge revenue and is one of the richest panchayats in Goa, cannot handle a simple task of collecting and disposing of garbage.
The panchayat member lamented that Colva attracts thousands of tourists throughout the year and what the elected local body presents to them is an ugly picture of the village with garbage and plastics all along the roads in the village.
The panchayat said that the mounds of plastics lying where the famous Fama fair was allowed to be set-up and which has folded up last week but the waste is yet to be collected.
