Now, pay your electricity bill online and avail 0.5% rebate
Panaji: Consumers in the state who opt for the online mode to pay their electricity bills will be eligible for a rebate.
The latest notification of the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) said that a rebate of 0.5% and 0.25% will be given to low-tension consumers and high-tension consumers respectively, provided payments are made online.
“We are yet to study the new notification and ascertain whether the new rebate will apply to consumers immediately,” an official said.
Consumers can now expect to get new electricity connections within a short span as the latest notification of the JERC has also specified a timeline for clearing applications.
According to the notification which is applicable to Goa and other Union territories, a consumer in a metro city should get a connection in three days and it will take seven days for consumers of urban municipal areas.
People residing on rural islands should get an electricity connection in 30 days from the date of filing the application, provided the application is complete in all respects.
A JERC official said earlier there was no time frame for clearing and processing applications for power connections.
Another benefit that’s in the offing for consumers is a timeline of 90 days for granting extension works, or enhancement of transformer capacity.
Its implementation is expected to be a big relief to joint consumers such as housing complexes and as well as commercial users, who encounters hurdles in the form of delays.
