Pernem: The state government will start a special 'ladies desk' at police stations, chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar said on Thursday.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a new police station at Pernem. He said that 300 new women police personnel will be deployed within the next six months to various police stations across the state and that recruitments have commenced.
The ladies desk is to ensure that a female complainant will be attended to by a female PSI and constables.
The new police station was inaugurated at the hands of Parsekar in the presence of the minister for environment and forest, Rajendra Arlekar, who is also the local MLA. tnn

Talking about the new station at Pernem, Parsekar said it will boost the efficiency of the department and help the police provide better service to the citizens, thus restoring public faith in the department.
In his speech, Arlekar said that all required infrastructure has been made available for the smooth functioning of the station. He appealed to the police to provide service with a human touch.
Arlekar stressed on the concept of smart police station and said that the police need to be strict, sensitive, modern, mobile, alert as well as accountable. He said that it is his vision to convert the Pernem police station into a smart police station by equipping it with all modern technology.
IGP, Sunil Garg, IGP (range and crime), V Renganathan, and chairperson Pernem municipal council, Smita Kudtarkar, were present on the occasion.
