Nominations from April 8 for Taleigao panchayat poll
Panaji: The filing of nominations for the Taleigao panchayat elections will commence from April 8.
As per the schedule announced by the Goa State Election Commission (SEC) on Thursday, the last day of filing nominations is April 18.
The elections to the panchayat will be held on April 28, between 8am and 5pm.
The counting of votes will take place on April 29.
Out of 19,349 voters, 9,206 comprise males and 10,143 consist of women.
The SEC has said that the panchayat elections will be held on non-party lines, and the votes will be cast through ballot papers.
The commission said that the expenditure limit per ward for a candidate is Rs 40,000.
The SEC has completed the process of delimitation of the 11 wards and has notified the reservation of seats.
Four wards have been reserved for women candidates, and one ward each for scheduled tribes (ST) and other backward classes (OBC).
The North Goa collector has been appointed as the district election officer.
The Tiswadi mamlatdar has been tasked with the responsibilities of the returning officer, while the taluka’s awal karkun has been appointed as the assistant returning officer.
All the current ward members of the panchayat belong to the panel of Taleigao strongman and revenue minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate.
Monserrate has announced his panel for the election.
The panel, Taleigao Progressive Development Front, comprises over 50% women candidates.
