No flooding in state capital, only low-lying areas hit, says Sawant
Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that disaster management teams are working to carry out rescue operations due to heavy rainfall in the state. Except for one or two low-lying areas, there is no flooding in Panaji, he said. Talking about the flooding in Panaji, Sawant said, “I was in Panaji. Only one or two low-lying areas experienced flooding.”
Sawant took stock of the situation from both the district collectors. He said that three people died due to a wall collapse at Kundaim where the disaster management authority, along with the people, took part in rescue operations. He said that over 80 trees were uprooted, and WRD had deployed pumps to remove water from waterlogged areas. The CM said that govt announced a holiday for schools and hopes that the situation will improve on Tuesday.
DGP Jaspal Singh on Monday directed district superintendents of police to constantly monitor the situation in view of the heavy rainfall. He also directed the IRBn commandant to be ready with the personnel.
Singh said he had told the district SPs to remain in touch with the collectors and fire department chief and SP (SPCR) to ensure that the control room functions effectively. Traffic police urged the people to contact them in case there is any vehicular congestion due to heavy rain.tnn
