No-confidence motion filed against Bicholim chairperson

Bicholim: A no-confidence motion tabled by six Bicholim municipal council councillors against chairperson Anisha Vernekar was approved by a margin of 6-0 votes during a meeting held at the BMC hall, Bicholim, on Wednesday.
The six councillors who signed the notice alleging no cooperation are deputy chairperson Riyaz Beg and councillors Ajit Birje, Kamlakar Teli, Kamlesh Teli, Karuna Govekar and Narayan Betkikar.Four opposition councillors including former chairperson Anisha Vernekar and councillors Premanand Mayekar, Shashikant Naik Halarnkar and Anita Harmalkar were absent as a result of which presiding officer Biju Naik approved the no-confidence motion. With today’s development councilor Karuna Govekar stands a chance as the future chairperson of the BMC, sources said. tnn
