PANAJI: The government is finalizing plans to build a new police station at Quepem.
Official sources told TOI that the existing police station at Quepem is housed in an old pre-liberation building which does not fulfill modern day policing needs. Accordingly, Goa Police have already drafted a proposal for the construction of a new building with all amenities by demolishing the existing structure.
The home department has approved the designs prepared by the PWD chief architect for the new Quepem police station building. The home department has made some modifications to the plans and returned it to the chief architect on June 19, 2012.
Sources said that in order to incorporate the modifications, the chief architect inspected the site and resubmitted his report for comments. The home department has approved the chief architect's report. The PWD will prepare estimates for the project based on the approved designs and modifications.
As soon as the estimates are received from the PWD, funds will be projected for the subsequent financial year and the construction of the police station building will be taken up. Budgetary provision will also be made for the project, sources said.
