PANAJI: While union minister Pralhad Joshi suggested the chief ministers of Goa and Karnataka to negotiate settlement over

Mhadei issue

, opposition leader

Digambar Kamat

said it is not needed in view of verdict given by

Mhadei

water disputes tribunal.

“Mhadei water disputes tribunal has already given its verdict,” he said.

In August 2018, Mhadei water disputes tribunal allotted 13.5 thousand million cubic feet (tmcft) of water from the river to Karnataka.

Goa government filed a special leave petition in the Supreme court in July seeking an interim relief to stop Karnataka from proceeding with further construction of bunds at the Kalsa nullah in Kankumbi and to restrain it from diverting water from the Mhadei basin to the Malaprabha basin.
