Navy rescues 3 burn victims onboard vessel off Goa coast

Panaji: Four crew members of MV Heilan Star sustained severe burn injuries on Thursday while their vessel was 230 nautical miles off Goa’s coast.
The incident prompted a rescue operation that saw the Navy diverting the aircraft carriers INS Vikrant and INS Deepak.
By early Friday morning, the Navy rescued three injured crew—two Chinese and one Indonesian—from the MV Heilan Star. The fourth crew member succumbed to injuries before he could be rescued.
The rescued crew were immediately flown to INS Hansa, Goa, from where they were transferred to a hospital for medical care.
The MV Heilan Star is a Panama-flagged bulk carrier. The vessel alerted the Indian Coast Guard’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at Mumbai.
At dawn, a Seaking helicopter from INS Vikrant carried out a winching operation to rescue the crew. This operation underscores the Indian Navy’s and the Coast Guard’s commitment to life-saving efforts, the Navy said in a statement.
