NMC approves expansion: GMC to offer 200 MBBS seats and more PG seats in 2024-25

PANAJI:The National Medical Commission has granted permission to GMC to increase its MBBS seats to 200 for the academic year 2024-25. GMC has also received approval for a 17-seat increase in several of its postgraduate MD/MS courses.

It has received approval to increase its MD (radiodiagnosis) seats from six to seven, MS (general surgery) seats from six to 15, MS (obstetrics and gynaecology) seats from six to eight, MD (pharmacology) seats from four to six, and MD (paediatrics) seats from seven to 10.

“This expansion marks a significant step towards enhancing the capacity of our institution and allowing more students to pursue their aspirations of becoming skilled medical professionals,” said health minister Vishwajit Rane.

“These increases in seat capacity reflect our ongoing commitment to fostering medical excellence and addressing the growing healthcare needs in the region and beyond. Goa Medical College remains dedicated to nurturing the next generation of medical professionals while providing cutting-edge medical education,” Rane added.

For the academic year 2019-20, the institution was permitted to increase its MBBS seats from 150 to 180.
