Nachinola to get vegetable procurement centre soon
Panaji: After establishing a vegetable procurement centre in each taluka, the Goa State Horticulture Corporation (GSHCL) is in the process of setting up a procurement centre at Nachinola—the second one in Bardez.
“Over the past two years, we set up a temporary space in Nachinola during the peak vegetable season. However, looking at the quantum of greens coming into the space, plans are afoot to establish a permanent procurement centre at Nachinola,” said GSHCL managing director, Chandrahas Desai. Farmers from the area produce okra, green chili, cluster beans, and brinjal.
“We are also delighted with the hard work of the Farmers Club of Nachinola, which has been actively involved in community farming,” Desai said. Last year, the GSHCL established a procurement centre at Cotigao in Canacona taluka and at Davorlim in Salcete taluka.
With 17 centres already operating, these hubs have become vital for local farmers and organic cultivators. Here, fresh produce is collected directly from growers and then dispatched to GSHCL retail outlets across Goa, where it reaches consumers at subsidised rates.
