N Goa to focus on red triangle signage to ensure road safety

Panaji: The North Goa District Road Safety Committee meeting on Tuesday discussed several measures to improve road safety in the region. The meeting emphasised the importance of using red triangle signage to warn of vehicle breakdowns, including KTCL buses, and decided to launch an awareness campaign on this.
A red triangle is a reflective safety warning sign used to alert drivers of potential hazards ahead, typically indicating that a vehicle has broken down or is in an emergency situation. It is often placed behind a stationary vehicle to warn approaching traffic, giving them time to slow down and avoid an accident.
“This measure is vital for preventing accidents by alerting oncoming drivers of potential hazards on the road,” a committee member said. Other pressing issues regarding road safety measures discussed in detail were the need to improve enforcement mechanisms related to violations caused by hoardings along national highways. These hoardings, often poorly placed, obstruct visibility causing distractions to drivers.
Another focal point was the removal of abandoned vehicles, particularly those belonging to govt departments. The authorities were urged to take swift action in clearing these vehicles.
The involvement of newly registered traffic wardens in road safety campaigns across North Goa was highlighted as a crucial step in ensuring safer roads.
