PANAJI: Of the nine robberies committed in North Goa since January 2008, seven have been detected and almost all the accused in the cases were local boys ��� many of whom were involved in petty offences as juveniles, the police informed.
Only two cases of robberies at Agassaim and Old Goa are yet to be detected.While in 2006 there were 10 robberies of which six were detected, in 2007, of the nine robberies, six were detected.
This year there were 50 house thefts, of which 28 have been detected. Besides, there were 101 burglaries by night and 20 by day. Of these, 40 have been detected.
���Most of the accused are school drop-outs who were involved in petty offences as juveniles. They are now getting into crime to earn a fast buck,��� said SP (north) Bosco George.
Praising his officers, SP George said, ���At crucial moments the beat constables gave us inputs that helped us crack the cases.��� This month alone, the North Goa police cracked about 18 cases of robbery, theft and burglary.
The major breakthrough this month was the arrest of Mansio Dias and Cyrone Rodrigues by the Ponda police.
The duo confessed that they, along with three others ��� Dominic D���Sa, Chandrakant Talwar and Naresh Palmari ��� who are still absconding, were involved in the robberies at Panaji, Ponda, Porvorim and Pernem. Besides, the Ponda police had also arrested two persons for robbing cash.
Panaji police nabbed the main accused, Surendra Pawar and his accomplices Imran Bepari and Gabriel Braganza, who were involved in the robbery of mobile phones and cash.
Calangute police on the other hand arrested three boys ��� Gaurish Kerkar, Venkatesh Cinthal and Nitin Anandache ��� who are involved in laptop and mobile thefts at Calangute and Panaji. Besides, the Mapusa police arrested one Gaypal Kashyap from Dodamarg, Maharashtra for allegedly stealing a bike. The cops also recovered Rs 12 lakh worth copper wires after the arrest of two accused.
Pernem police recovered all the solar equipment worth Rs 1 lakh that was stolen from a private property after the arrest of four persons, all from Karnataka while the Bicholim police nabbed persons who were involved in theft of gold jewellery.
