Musical tribute to SFX’s desire to reach China
Panaji: The third chapter in a trilogy of musicals by Fr Allan Tavares, ‘Xavier’s Mission China’, delves into St Francis Xavier’s last voyage from Malacca aboard the Santa Croce and focuses on his burning desire to reach China. The musical is drawn from extensive research and the Saint’s own letters, highlighting the lesser-known aspects of his time in Malacca.
Artistes from Goa, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Arunachal Pradesh, and the US will be putting together the musical.
Tavares staged ‘Francis, a Man in a Hurry’ in 2004, depicting Xavier’s voyage from Europe to Goa. ‘Xavier’s Mission China’ aims to inspire pilgrims to carry forward Xavier’s devotion and is produced by the Shubhsandesh Gospel Echoes troupe in collaboration with the Handmaids of Christ. The musical aims to inspire pilgrims with its blend of historical insights, vibrant performances, and a message of unwavering dedication to a divine mission.
It not only pays homage to Xavier’s legacy but also serves as a testament to the missionary spirit that transcends borders and cultures, inviting audiences to reflect on their own spiritual journeys.
The musical will be staged on Nov 30 at Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem, with passes available for the show at the venue, at Our Lady of Miracles Church, Sanguem, and Guardian Angel High School, Curchorem.
