MPA’s Baina fence raises councillors’ ire
Vasco: Councillors of the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Wednesday threatened to bulldoze the fencing which has been put up by Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) towards the end of the loop flyover near Baina.
Councillor Deepak Naik and locals of Baina were taken by surprise when they saw the fencing erected by MPA late on Tuesday night, soon after the inauguration of the curved flyover by Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari.
Naik, along with MMC chairperson Girish Borkar and locals, staged a protest at the fenced site on Wednesday afternoon and demanded that the MPA remove the fence immediately.
“We have gone through several difficulties during the construction of the flyover,” Naik said. “MPA should come clear on the closure of the loop end towards Baina, failing which we will be forced to take law into our own hands.”
He said he was confident that Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar will find a way to resolve the matter.
“People will wait for the next two days and will see whether MPA comes up with any solution, failing which we will decide the further course of action,” Naik said.
An official of the MPA said the portion has been fenced for security.
