Morphed clip: HC reserves bail order of accused

Mapusa:
A court at Mapusa on Wednesday reserved the bail order relating to Kukesh Rauta, who has been accused of extorting money from an MLA. The court also rejected an application filed by an Aldona resident, Gopinath Panjikar, to intervene in the bail application.

Panjikar, represented by advocate Vinayak Porob, submitted to the court that the alleged morphed video hurt his sentiments and those of the other people of Aldona. He argued that Rauta should not be released on bail because the investigation is still in progress. He expressed concern that if Rauta were to be released, he could further circulate the video to commit more such offences.

Panjikar said he filed the application for intervention because he saw the viral video and his MLA did not file an objection to Rauta’s bail.

He added that he filed the intervention application due to the damage, loss, injury, and harm caused to the name and reputation of not only his MLA but also all the voters of the Aldona constituency.
