More police stations won't change situation

GOA: The home minister has announced more police stations in coastal areas. Should Goan feel secure and relieved by this? With all the happenings in the last decade, this statement can get people more worried than relived. The record and reputation of the Goa police, does not in any way draw confidence in the people. The police, instead of being a source of security to Goans have become a source of intimidation and terror.Instead of upholding the law and protecting the people and being of service to them, they are for the service of politicians, goons and themselves. The apathy of the police is evident as the crime rate is soaring and conviction rate is negligible. More police stations will be useless and will not guarantee effective, efficient and incorruptible service from the men in uniform if their attitude is not changed.
