Mohit among spinners for specialist camp under Harbhajan

Panaji: Goa offspinner Mohit Redkar has been asked by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to attend a specialist camp for spin bowlers to train under the tutelage of former India great Harbhajan Singh.
“Mohit Redkar from your association is required to report at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) to attend a specialist camp which will be held from March 23 to March 26,” head of cricket at CoE, VVS Laxman, wrote in a letter to the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) earlier this week.
The BCCI has sought the services of the former India spin bowler to groom the next line of spin bowlers in the country.
A similar camp has also been planned for fast bowlers under Zaheer Khan, who ended his career with 311 Test wickets, second only to Kapil Dev among Indian fast bowlers.
Of particular interest to Goa will be the inclusion of Mohit among the list of promising spinners in India.
The list has been prepared by BCCI on the basis of potential senior India prospects who have done well at the age group and first-class levels, and have also played for India A.
Mohit, 25, made his debut for Goa in the Ranji Trophy against Rajasthan at the Porvorim Cricket Academy in 2022-23, grabbing five wickets in the first match. He played all seven Ranji matches for Goa that season, taking 19 wickets and scoring 238 runs. Though Goa failed to progress to the knock-out stage, his performance didn't go unnoticed.
Since his Ranji Trophy debut, Mohit has had five wicket hauls four times, accumulating 72 wickets in 25 first class matches. The allrounder has scored a handy 623 runs.
During the 2023-24 season, Mohit was the U-23 highest wicket taker and was selected for the Deodhar Trophy.
Mohit was also in the standby list of India A team for the Emerging Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and attended two high performance camps at Alur and Coimbatore.
