Modi will form NDA govt at Centre, Goa’s stable BJP dispensation will continue: CM

Panaji: Accepting the people’s mandate in Goa, chief minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said his govt is stable and will complete its full term. Sawant said in the next assembly election, BJP will beat Congress.

Sawant said that BJP has secured a 56% vote share in North Goa. He said the party registered leads in 16 North Goa and 11 South Goa constituencies. He added that the party logged a 45.2% vote share overall, but somehow failed to garner another 2%.

The CM said that BJP lost in one seat in Goa because the party failed to get strong leads in some constituencies, which was an expected outcome. “We don’t want to blame anyone, and we accept the results,” Sawant said. “We will analyse what went wrong and how to improve in the next election.”

After the results were declared, Sawant said, many people “started dreaming about the future of Goa govt”. He added, “I want to tell them that BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will form the NDA govt at the Centre and the BJP-led govt will continue to serve the people in Goa.”

He went on to say, “In the next assembly election, our fight will be against Congress and not with the people of the state. We will win the assembly election with the support of the people.”

After congratulating Congress’s Capt Viriato Fernandes for winning the South Goa seat, Sawant said that there was no resentment in BJP over the selection of Pallavi Dempo for that constituency.

BJP has been able to win the North Goa seat with a margin of over 1.2 lakh, as predicted, Sawant said. “I thank all the electorate of the state for North Goa,” he said. “Even if we have lost the South Goa seat, we have accepted defeat. We accept the verdict of South Goa’s people.”
