, the iconic artworks of Rabindranath Tagore,

M F Hussain

and Goan artists F N Souza and Laxman Pai were displayed at the DAG Modern’s exhibition of ‘Indian Modern Art’. The artworks have been put together for the Serendipity Arts Festival (SAF)in

Panaji

.

“We have brought together works from our collection to highlight different aspects of 20th century Indian art, while keeping Goa and its unique identity and history in mind,” said art advisor at DAG Modern, Lynn Hilloowala.

“We have tried to create a rich snapshot of Indian art history with a focus on 20th century modern art from Western academic styles to Revivalist Bengal School and Santiniketan, the Cholamandal artists from the south and the firebrands of Progressive Artist’s Group,” she added.

Keeping the Christmas setting in mind, biblical art by Indian artists — Jamini Roy, V Nageshkar, Madhavi Parekh, Bakre and S Dhanpal — were also on display. Sharing her thoughts on the two Goan stalwarts, Lynn said, “FN Souza is perhaps the best known Indian painter in the world and Laxman Pai’s work has always been intrinsically Goan.”
