The concretizing of this stretch will be done only on the existing road width. When finished, no tourist vehicles will be allowed on this stretch and only vehicles of residents will be permitted.
The full project involved constructing a new, concrete road from Panaji's Miramar circle to the Dona Paula circle and onward to Raj Bhavan. The 4.5km long and 11m wide concrete road will cost a total of 72 crore. But this cost is for the entire project, including the 3-lane concrete road, another lane on the seaside for a cycle track and beautification works that include pavements, sit-outs, parking, streetlights and landscaping. The project is expected to be completed within a year, sources said.
GSIDC sources said that the road is an important one and if it is cast in concrete, it will not develop potholes for 50 years and will not require resurfacing for as many years.
The 2.5m-wide cycle track will also be cast in concrete with a layer of rubber painting on the surface. The road will have underground ducts on both sides for laying utility cables. In the future, the road will not be dug up for laying any cables.
Much inconvenience was caused to school students at Miramar due to mud dumped on the pavements by the PWD which has undertaken a sewerage project there.
PWD executive engineer Dilip Dhavalikar said that the PWD will start removing the mud from Saturday and the pavement will be cleared within two days.
