During the recent three-day assembly session, WRD minister Philip Neri Rodrigues had given assurance that the cell would be constituted. Accordingly, WRD chief engineer Pramod Badami issued the order on August 3.

Heading the cell is WRD engineer Dilip Naik, who is well-versed with issues related to the Mhadei dispute. According to the letter issued by Badami, Naik will coordinate directly with the advocate general on all matters related to the cell.

Meanwhile, speaking to TOI, Rodrigues said, “I had brought it to the notice of the chief minister that this cell needs to be constituted. Presently, petitions in the Mhadei matters are pending before the apex court and the Mhadei Water

Disputes

Tribunal for hearing. This cell will help in coordinating the matter independently.”

In November, 2008 the Mhadei Bachao Abhiyan urged the government to constitute a special cell to look after Mhadei matters and provide clarifications over apprehensions expressed by Goans from time to time.
