Mercedes hits woman at Siolim, 21-year-old driver arrested

Panaji: Anjuna police on Wednesday arrested a 21-year-old man from Porvorim after a Mercedes driven by him hit and seriously injured a woman in Siolim on Tuesday evening.

Police said Archit Sangelkar, who is a photographer by profession, drove his car rashly and hit pedestrian Judith Fernandes, 37, near the Sao Joao Chapel in Gudem, Siolim. He fled from the accident site leaving critically injured Fernandes on the road. He did not even call an ambulance, police said.

Police have seized his car. An FIR against him has been registered under Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Motor Vehicles Act. Anjuna police are investigating further.
