MARGAO: Goa police on Friday arrested five men for abducting and gangraping a 25-year-old mentally challenged woman.
Police said that the primary accused, Adil Algur, 18, first “enticed” and abducted the woman from the KTC bus stand, Margao, first travelling to Vasco by bus and then to Dabolim junction by scooter.
Once in Dabolim, four other accused persons — Mohammed Ali Mulla, 22, Shahzad Shaikh, 18, Viresh Aguanda, 18, and Mohammed Yasir, 18, joined Adil in a Baleno. They then took the survivor to a flat in Cansaulim, where they allegedly gangraped her. The crime took place between 8pm on Wednesday at 3.30am on Thursday. Police solved the crime within two hours, they said.
“Through digital mapping and using multiple investigative teams, we conducted a scientific investigation. We were able to map down all the culprits, and they are in custody. We did it. It was a thorough scientific investigation with digital mapping that solved what could have been a blind case,” DIG Varsha Sharma told reporters.
South Goa SP Sunita Sawant said, “All five accused have been apprehended and remanded to seven days in police custody. It was indeed a blind case that we cracked successfully”.
The case has been registered under Sections 138, 70(1), and 64(1)(k)(m) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, 2023.
